Best Drones for Kids 2018
If you’re excited about the idea of getting your kid into flying drones, then you should be. Flying drones is not only fun for kids but it’s fun for adults too. It’s a fun group activity that you can use for leisure and for business. So, if you’re looking to get a kid their first drone and you’re looking to get something that will be safe and educational, here’s what you should look for.
Beginner Drones – These are drones that are aimed at teaching people how to fly and they’re generally pretty cheap. They usually come in cheap plastic and not carbon fiber based like some of the more expensive drones.
Range – If you’re teaching your kid to fly a drone, then you probably don’t want to get a drone that has a several mile range unless you’re going to be always monitoring the child’s activity with the drone. The best bet here is to go for drones that have 100-300-meter ranges and have an auto-return home function if they’re low on battery.
Size & Weight – You don’t want a drone that’s heavy or large. There’re several dangerous parts on a drone, mainly the propeller. So, you probably want a drone that won’t cut your child’s hand if their hands wander too close and there are plenty of drones out there that protect the propeller.
How easy is the drone to use? – If you forget what you were like when you were a kid, then we’ll help try to remind you. You were probably short-tempered and got frustrated with something relatively quickly. If you pick a drone that’s hard to learn or hard to use, that’s more than likely what your kid is going to experience, so we recommend following the drones we recommend here as we’ve thoroughly researched all of these drones for the above points.
WARNING: Never let your child play with a drone by themselves unattended, especially when it’s not in flight. For young toddlers in the house, it’s vital that you always keep your drone locked up in its carrying case and no accessories or pieces are lying about because drones come with plenty of choking hazards.
Quick Things to Consider
Before you look for a child friendly drone, here are a few quick things to consider:
- What’s your exact budget for a drone and how much are you willing to spend? Most child-friendly drones cost less than $100 but some people on are tight budgets.
- How easy of a drone are you looking for and what kind of controls are you looking for?
- Remember the size of the drone and make sure that the drone either doesn’t come with detachable parts or you keep it locked up.
- Do you get a flight controlled included with the drone or do you have to use their app? From our experience, drone apps are either hit and miss as some of them are buggy.
